In 2023, the Department of Education announced the education strategy Equity and Excellence: realising the potential of every student. This strategy builds on the successes of our past and leads into the future with a clear vision for a progressive, high performing education system with a focus on educational achievement, wellbeing and engagement, and culture and inclusion.

It links to the national commitment to equity and excellence in education outlined in the Alice Springs (Mparntwe) Education Declaration—that all children and young people are confident, creative, lifelong learners active in their community.

We are excited to present a selection and celebration process, aligned to Equity and Excellence, that recognises schools at an annual showcasing event.

Process

As of 2023, through a reinvigorated selection and celebration process aligned to the Equity and Excellence strategy, schools no longer need to nominate for Showcase.

Schools that have significantly enhanced student outcomes and have delivered effective evaluation and improvement of school performance will be identified through a range of processes including:

  • regional consultations
  • school reviews
  • school performance data analysis
  • panel discussions.

Showcased schools will then be recognised through an annual celebration event.

Categories

Showcase categories align to our Equity and Excellence strategy and support a commitment to our inclusive education policy to ensure all children and young people across Queensland state schools, from all social, cultural, community and family backgrounds, and of all identities and all abilities can access and fully participate in learning.

Showcased schools will have demonstrated programs and initiatives to support:

  • student educational achievement
  • wellbeing and engagement
  • culture and inclusion.

Schools will be showcased across 6 categories.

Showcased schools will receive a $20,000 bursary. This bursary will support leadership teams to document and share their innovative leadership practice with other school communities or to reinvest into their school improvement initiatives. It may also assist further development of the school program and be used for various purposes, including:

  • study leave or support
  • research
  • conference attendance or presentation
  • professional resources
  • team building
  • staff professional development
  • implement a school staff professional learning program.
